We’re all looking for quick and easy snacks that can help us power through the day and get through those never-ending to-do lists. So, why not opt for something that your body will not only love but actually thank you for?

Protein snacks are important for several reasons and incorporating them into your diet can provide various benefits. Protein-rich snacks help control your appetite, build strength and muscle, enhance bone strength, promote a healthy metabolism, and helps the body recover.[i] Join us as we dive into why protein snacks are an absolute MUST and should be included in your eating plan.

Benefits of High-Protein Snacks

  • Help you feel fuller for longer because eating high-protein foods signal the release of appetite-suppressing hormones in the body which can slow down digestion, reducing overall calorie intake and supporting weight management.[ii]

  • Essential for muscle repair, maintenance, and growth. Consuming protein snacks throughout the day ensures a steady supply of amino acids - the building blocks of proteins - to support these processes.

  • Helps stabilise blood sugar levels. It slows down the absorption of carbohydrates, preventing rapid spikes and crashes in blood sugar.

  • Provides a more sustained source of energy compared to carbohydrates alone. Having protein snacks between meals can help maintain energy levels, helping you power through that afternoon slump.

  • Protein has a higher thermic effect than fats or carbohydrates, meaning it requires more energy to digest. This can help boost your metabolism, increasing total calories burned.

  • Protein-rich snacks often come with other essential nutrients, such as vitamins and minerals, contributing to a more balanced and nutrient-dense diet.

Protein-Rich Snack Ideas

What makes the perfect snack? Something that is yummy, doesn't require much meal prep and is super quick to make, right? Here are a few of our favourite high-protein snacks:

1. Greek Yogurt Dessert

Layer Greek yogurt with fresh berries, a drizzle of honey, and a sprinkle of granola or nuts.

2. Protein Smoothie

Blend together your preferred choice of protein powder, almond milk, one banana, and a spoonful of peanut butter for a quick and tasty protein smoothie. In this heat, we'd definitely recommend adding lots of ice!

3. Hard-Boiled Eggs with Avocado

Slice a hard-boiled egg and serve it with slices of avocado. Sprinkle with salt, pepper, and a dash of balsamic vinegar or hot sauce if desired.

4. Cottage Cheese & Pineapple

Combine low-fat cottage cheese with sliced and fresh pineapple. This provides a sweet and savory protein-packed snack.

5. Protein Bars

Make your own protein bars using ingredients like oats, protein powder, peanut butter, and honey. Mix, press into a pan, and refrigerate before cutting into bars.

6. Hummus & Veggie Sticks

Dip carrot, celery, cucumber, and bell pepper sticks in reduced fat hummus for a satisfying and nutritious snack.
